End of season bash 2012 / 2013. (8th June 2013)

A great end of season bash last night for Castlegregory Celtic FC, starting with a team meal in Barrys Vilage Bistro Take-Away where all the players and management got together to celebrate a season which was hugely positive for the club both on and off the pitch. Over the season Castle played 21 games, winning 10, drawing 3 and losing 8, scoring 45 goals along the way with 15 different goalscorers. The league campaign saw us just pipped at the post for promotion but with a young squad no doubt next year the club will be even stronger as well as more experienced. A special word of thanks to those that helped make the season so positive by giving structure and direction - Ger O Callaghan, Brian Goggin and the Castlegregory Celtic legend Kevin Maunsell, who along with the committee worked tirelessly all season to organise training and games as well as running the club on a weekly basis, all voluntarily. The players too (all 40 different players that played with us over the course of the season!) gave huge commitment through the campaign, showing the strides forward the club has made over the course of the year. The players and management all voted at the bash last night for their choice of Player of the season (Alan Fitz), Young player of the season (Maurice Slattery) and Goal of the season (Damien Ó Fínn), well deserved awards after a long hard season. Here are some pics of the craic in Barrys last night. A massive thanks to Kevin Maunsell who made the slate awards and presented them. A final mention of thanks for our club sponsors, who support the club year on year, helping the club survive and develop, their support is hugely appreciated especially in such tough economic times, we are lucky to have such generous and supportive local businesses. Hopefully next season we can build on the progress of this year and add in some silverware to the end of year bash!! Castle abú...

Darts Competition Friday 22nd Feb, Boland's Bar, Castlegregory:
A huge thank you to everyone that came to our first ever darts tournament last night in Boland's Bar, Castlegregory which was a huge success. We had 34 players making for a great competition of seeded mixed doubles. Kealan Dowling and Michael John Flynn went right the way from the preliminary round game to win the tournament on a night when there was good darts being played all round. The final went right down to the wire with both teams locked on 2-2, the winner being the first to three. Step up Kealan Dowling who with his last three darts took out 56, (8 - 16 - double 16 with the last dart!) to see off strong competition from Sean Joyce and Jordan Quirke. Overall, a great night of darts and craic which helped the local soccer club raise a few bob, and to have two soccer club members win, and another in the final was fantastic. From all involved at Castlegregory Celtic Fc we would like to extend our gratitude to Bolands Bar for the fantastic set-up, Brian Goggin and Gerry Flynn for all the help organising, Chris O Grady for them fantastic white boards, John Flynn for helping run off the games, everyone who travelled from Cloghane, Brandon and Camp etc plus all the businesses that donated spot prizes and to everyone who helped run the raffle on the night (mainly Mandy B Browne!). A load of organising turned into a powerful night. Also a special mention to Eileen O Grady, the only lady to enter. What a night though, roll on next year. Thanks again everybody, great to see so many darts players there, old and new...
